Name:Josh Nickerson
Website:The Nolans Online Comic Strip
Location:Pearisburg, Virginia, United States
Birthdate:1979-09-18
Bio:I was always fascinated with comic strips and cartoons, and began drawing Snoopy and Garfield early on in childhood,
as soon as I was able to wrap my fingers around a crayon. In the sixth grade I came up with my own character, named
after me, of course. Of course, I was pretty lousy at drawing and writing, but I started a comic strip called "Kool Kids",
which chronicled the exploits of my sister and myself. Eventually, my interest in the strip waned and by the eight grade,
I abandoned it.

It wasn't until my Sophomore year in high school that I picked up the pen (or, as I used at the time, mechanical pencil)
again and retooled the comic, renaming it "The Nolans", with more emphasis on the parent characters, Steve and
Patty. As I went through high school and entered college, my drawing and writing style changed and improved,
influenced by a steady mix of Calvin and Hobbes, Animaniacs, and japanese animation, until The Nolans was where it
is today.

My first comic publication was in the grade school newspaper in the seventh grade, when "Kool Kids" was featured on
the back page in six issues. My characters were also used in the Yearbook my senior year as illustrations. I also spent
the first three years of college trying to get "The Nolans" published in the college newspaper, and in my fourth and final
year, I finally did get a comic published in the paper, but it wasn't "The Nolans". It was a single panel untitled political
cartoon (which I've since dubbed "Political Slamfest"). I would have preferred if "The Nolans" had made it in, but it was
a way for me to experiment with different drawing styles.

"The Nolans" originally launched on the the web in 1998, but I couldn't keep up with the site, so I abandoned it a few
months later, with only three story arcs posted. After that, in 2000, I drew a small gaming comic called "Fresh From
The Icebox" for the game site DMGIce.com. It was basically a silly gag comic based on characters from the site's chat
room, and I recycled a lot of jokes I had previously used on "The Nolans". Though I enjoyed "Icebox", I still longed to get
the Nolans out there.

Then, in September 2000, I came across a site called Keenspace. I signed up and on September 18, "The Nolans"
officially launched on the world wide web. Readership has been increasing steadily over the months, and I hope to get
enough readers to be recruited to Keenspot one day. In addition to "The Nolans", I also created a comic book series
"The Treasure Hunters", which I began developing back in high school, but only actually began writing and drawing the
books this year. The first issue has recently been featured as a Keenspot.com Miniseries.

I graduated college in May with a degree in Graphic Design, and am currently doing freelance work. I would love to be
able to draw "The Nolans" and "The Treasure Hunters" for a living, but that is probably a far way off. I am single and
currently live near Pearisburg, Virginia.

I've always loved to draw cartoons as far back as I can remember, ever since I could hold a crayon in my hand.
I've always tried to make people laugh. I think the best thing I can do in life is make someone laugh and make them feel
better.
